Miracle Cure

One of the things I did in the orphanage was a skin check and wound care. When I first met Stephania she had a terrible infection on her left ear and down her back. Hygeine isn't the highest standard in Haiti, especially among the orphans, and something as simple as scratching a mosquito bite with dirty fingernails can cause a major infection.

Stephania's sores were terribly painful, and she screamed while I cleaned her wounds. But, when we came back the next day her infection was gone and her wounds were almost healed.

Magic formula?

Water + Soap + Neosporin = Miracle Cure

It's amazing what a little soap, water, and antibacterial can do. Most of the work we are doing in Haiti will take months or even years to show results, and being there for only a short time can be incredibly frustrating. Being able to make a difference - even one so simple as clearing up a minor infection in one child - and seeing the results in so short a time was amazingly rewarding. The whole trip was worth it for that one small moment.
